Guwahati —
Gateway to the Northeast

An ancient city on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra, home to one of Hinduism's most powerful shrines and a vibrant cultural heartbeat.

Guwahati is more than just a transit city — it is a destination in its own right. Perched on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra River, it is one of India's oldest cities, steeped in mythology, spirituality and Assamese culture. At its heart stands the Kamakhya Temple — one of the 51 Shakti Peethas of Hinduism and among the most sacred pilgrimage sites in all of India. Beyond the temple, the city offers river islands, wildlife sanctuaries, silk weaving villages and the warm flavours of Assamese cuisine.
